insulationSeveral home builders promote themselves as building "green", but what exactly does that mean? In order to implement a standard by which buyers can compare one home builder's "green" practices to that of other home builders, the U.S. Department of Energy presented the "EnergySmart Home Scale" (E-scale) in 2006. The E-scale is based on the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) index: the lower the number, the more efficient the home. JMARC Homes's green technology and and energy efficient features allow for a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) index value of 55. To put value into perspective, consider that a typical existing home has a HERS index value of 130 and that a typical new home has an index value of 100. Each garden home is individually rated and certified by a third party inspector to ensure th total energy efficiency of the home.

In order to better serve you in your decision, we have categorized our green methods into three easy-to-follow categories. These include Energy Efficiency, Water Efficiency, and Indoor Environmental Quality. With our energy efficient features and green technology combined, we at JMARC Homes meet over 125% of the 2009 International Energy Compliance Code. Due to our practices in green home building, homeowners can expect to see savings of over 50% in heating and cooling costs. Our goal is not only to provide our clients with beautiful homes, but also to pass on savings to the homeowner through decreased utility bills.

  • Energy Efficiency
  • Water Efficiency
  • Indoor Air Quality

There are several ways that a home can lose energy, the primary one being conditioned air escaping from the inside of the home to its surroundings. The typical builder uses only fiberglass insulation, which still allows for air to escape through it. In order to reduce this inefficiency, JMARC Homes seals each building envelope with continuous insulation DOW STYROFOAM sheathing. We also provide the homeowner with blown cellulose walls along the roof and wall cavities. With these procedures combined, we manage to achieve an insulation that is both air-tight and water-tight. Additionally, since the roofs of our homes are so heavily insulated, the AC system (which runs through the upper portion of the home) does not have to work as hard to keep your air cool since it's not fighting the heat from the attic. This means more money in your pocketbook during those hot summer days.

In addition to heavy insulation for walls and wall cavities, JMARC Homes takes the next step in conserving energy by using Alenco windows with ClimaGuard low-emissivity (low-E) double paned insulated glass. The low-E coatings are thin layers of metal that reside on the surface of the window to deflect heat and therefore keep heat on the side of the glass from which it originated. By using ClimaGuard Low-E windows, we ensure that the windows in your new home are designed specifically for your climate, therefore increasing its effectiveness in keeping your conditioned air inside your home. The heat lost to the environment from your home is quantitatively measured in terms of the U-Factor (or U-Value). The lower the number, the less energy that is escaping to the environment through your windows. In San Antonio, the typical builder manages a U-Factor of .52, while JMARC Homes achieves a U-Factor of .34!

EnergyStar

We are proud to offer new homes that have earned the ENERGY STAR® label. ENERGY STAR qualified new homes are substantially more energy efficient than homes built to the minimum code requirements. Our ENERGY STAR qualified new homes are independently verified by a third-party Home Energy Rater to ensure they meet ENERGY STAR energy efficiency guidelines. These homes are better for the environment and better for you. Learn more about ENERGY STAR qualified new homes at http://www.energystar.gov/.

Low Volume Irrigation Systems

As those of us in South Texas know, water is precious and its conservation is crucial. JMAR Homes practices this fundamental concept by implementing low volume irrigation systems (which include a timer and rain sensor) EPA certified dual flush toilets, low flow plumbing fixtures by Moen, tankless water heaters, and ENERGY STAR Whirlpool appliances. Additionally, JMARC Homes uses Comal County approved drought-tolerant plants in landscaping and turf.

Dual Flush Toilet- With all the features of a standard toilet plus water efficient features. The dual flush toilet system has two buttons that operate the flush. One button provides a short flush, while the other provides a full flush. This system operates on significantly less water, even on the full flush, when compared to a traditional toilet. //http://greenliving.lovetoknow.com/Dual_Flush_Toilet FIND OUT WHICH DUAL FLUSH TOILET WE USE IN THE HOMES //

Low Flow Plumbing Fixtures- The concept behind our implementation of low flow plumbing fixtures by Moen is simple: the slower the flow of the water, the more water conserved. By using Moen's low flow plumbing fixtures in your new home, we provide you with savings on you water bill without sacrificing performance. //IN THE KITCHEN, BATH?//

Tankless Water Heater- Rather than using traditional water heater systems, which operate on the principle of constantly heating a tank of water to a certain temperature until it is used, our tankless water heaters provide the homeowner with hot water on demand. Since the tankless water heater uses energy only while it is in use, it conserves both water and energy. Energy Star Whirlpool appliances

Drought-Tolerant Plants- The idea behind using drought-tolerant plants is a clear one: it takes less water to maintain a drought-tolerant plant than a thirsty one. Drought-tolerant plants come in a variety of colors and species, meaning that your landscape is both beautiful and efficient.

Having a low quality of air can cause both irritation and illness, two things that can alter one's performance at work, school, and life in general. Our objective is to provide our homeowners with beautiful and comfortable homes, which includes a high standard of air quality for every home we sell.

Seasonal Efficiency Ration (SEER) ratings are used to describe the efficiency of an equipment system. The higher the rating, the more
efficient the system. We here at JMARC Homes are proud to report that our Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) system achieves
a SEER value of 15+!

Typical household paint countains thousands of chemicals, 300 of which are known toxins. Some of the most haphzardous chemicals in paint are volatile organic compounds (VOCs). In order to protect you and your loved ones from these dangerous toxins, we paint our homes with Low "VOC" paint by Pittsburgh/Monarch, accomplishing rich color in our homes without sacrificing your health.

In order to keep the air in your new home at a high quality, we take fresh air from the outdoors and treat it with an Energy Recovery Ventilator (ERV). ERV's are extremely efficient air-to-air heat exchangers that increase your indoor air quality while operating on little energy when compared to standard ventilators.

We put the icing on the cake by incorporating Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) 10 allergen air filters into your new home. The
high performance of MERV 10 filters means you spend less time dusting and more time living.
